Coulommiers is a small town located 60 km due east of Paris. Best known for its Brie cheese and as the birthplace of André the Giant, it also makes for a great cycling destination.

This route starts out along the quai like a Marne loop, but instead of heading back, you continue east along the river. You cruise on the pancake-flat Marne path until about 38 km in, where you cut south and climb out of the river valley. You pass a great boulangerie if you want a snack and the Château de Champs-sur-Marne if you want to snap a picture. From there, you have a couple more climbs as you make your way into the countryside. After around 50 km you really start to feel out of the city. The landscape becomes a mix of farmland and forest, with a few rollers to keep things interesting. The route loops you through the center of the village, past plenty of restaurants and shops, before taking you to the train station.
If you’re looking for a truly unique experience, you can stop at Oncle Scott’s for lunch and enjoy an American-western-themed restaurant. The ice cream desserts are incredible, which might be exactly what you need before hopping on the Transilien Line P back to Paris. The train runs about every hour, costs only €2.50, and gets you to Gare de l’Est in roughly an hour.
