The Barn is a classic destination, and I already have two routes that go there: a direct 107 km loop and a longer 100 mile option. I felt a third version was needed. The 100 mile ride is enjoyable, but it is a bit time consuming for a regular weekend outing, especially with a coffee and snack stop.

This medium Barn route leaves Paris the same way most Gif rides do. You roll along the quai, climb through Clamart, and eventually drop into the Chevreuse valley. After passing through Gif, you cut south and climb out of the valley. The route continues farther south toward Dourdan before turning back north toward the Barn. This creates extra distance, partly from the detour toward Dourdan and partly from taking a slightly nicer route through Paris and the suburbs.

You reach the Barn at around 81 km. It is an ideal place for a coffee and a bottle refill. After a nice stop, the return follows the same line as my previous shorter route. You ride back through forests and fields, climb the 17 turns, cut over to Buc, and finish through Meudon before a fast cruise along the river back to the café.

This is the Goldilocks version of the Barn route—not too long, not too short, just right.
